Connecticut drug investigation ends in arrests

Just months after a Bristol drug bust involving a Mini Mart clerk, three Plainfield, Connecticut, residents have been arrested and are being held on $20,000 bond each. According to reports, a 65-year-old woman, her 24-year-old grandson and an unrelated 34-year-old woman are accused of orchestrating the sale of heroin out of the grandmother's house.

Police reportedly investigated the area after receiving calls from those in the neighborhood about a higher than average level of short-term traffic around the house. There were also tips called in that drug sales were allegedly occurring out the house. According to reports, callers told police that the 34-year-old woman was driving the 24-year-old around in a gray Toyota Corolla. The two were stopped on Route 14 and arrested by police after they had allegedly been out to obtain drugs.

The 65-year-old grandmother and the 24-year-old have been charged with narcotics possession, possession of heroin with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. The 24-year-old is also facing charges of traveling unreasonably fast and operating under suspension. The 34-year-old was reportedly also facing unspecified charges related to the drug investigation. They are set to appear in court on Aug. 4.

With the sale and use of heroin steadily increasing across the country, police, prosecutors and judges are handling these cases more and more aggressively. For defendants, this means that every detail of a drug search and seizure or police interrogation becomes a critical point for the defense. A drug conviction can affect a person's life for years to come, making understanding all the laws and options critical.
