Connecticut man arrested for violating sex offender requirements

It's not an exaggeration to say that being convicted of a sex crime in Connecticut can have life-long ramifications. Under Connecticut law, people convicted of certain offenses must register as sex offenders. Connecticut's registry is maintained by the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Sex Offender Registry Unit.

Registered sex offenders are required to comply with specific requirements such as keeping the unit informed of their current address and any address changes. If they fail to comply with any of the requirements, they can face arrest and possible prosecution. That's what has happened to a 30-year-old man living in New Haven. He is accused of not verifying his address with the registry unit. He is facing two counts of failing to verify his address.

The Sex Offender Registry Unit notified the Hamden Police Department of the man's alleged violations in September of last year. After an investigation, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

If you have been convicted of a sexually-based offense, it's essential that you understand and abide by all of the requirements handed down by the court whether you agree with them or not. These requirements can extend well past the time you've finished serving your sentence. The state takes these types of crimes very seriously and has put these requirements in place to help protect the safety of the community.

If you need clarifications of the registry requirements, your defense attorney can explain them to help ensure that you abide by them and don't find yourself in further legal jeopardy. If you are charged with violating them, it's essential to seek legal assistance right away.
