Famous singer and wife arrested in domestic assault matter

Paul Simon and his wife, Edie Brickell, were recently taken into custody in Connecticut on charges of domestic violence and disorderly conduct. According to police, someone called 911 to report an alleged family dispute taking place at their residence. Authorities arrived and arrested the couple in a suspected domestic assault matter at approximately 8:20 p.m. on a recent Saturday evening.

Officers say that when they arrived on scene they discovered that one of the pair had minor injuries, but they did not indicate if it was Paul Simon or Edie Brickell who had suffered those injuries. Police said that they considered the incident to be minor. However, police protocol required them to take the couple into custody because it was a domestic violence event.

When Simon and Brickell appeared in court the following Monday, they could be seen holding hands. Simon informed officers that he and his wife love each other, they are fine and they had simply had an argument. The lawyer representing the pair reiterated Simon's statements by accusing police of exaggerating the incident. Their legal representative said that incident was something that husbands and wives normally go through and that it was nothing.

Considering the sentiments of both parties in this alleged domestic violence incident, it is likely that stiff legal consequences can be avoided the pair. However, criminal charges related to domestic assault can be difficult for many of those who have been accused in such cases to resolve. Still, Connecticut courts are aware that such accusations can sometimes be exaggerated and events did not always happen exactly as the accusing party describes. Regardless of what occurred and regardless of what accusations and evidence are brought against those suspected of domestic violence, a strategically organized legal defense can often dramatically affect the final outcome of such proceedings for anyone who is embroiled in such proceedings.
